Attention All Parents of Children Entering Kindergarten In September 2004
It is that time of year for us to start looking into our community to see how many children will be entering our schools in the Fall of 2004. If your child is going to be five years old by October 15, 2004, then we want to here from you. You need to register your child for Kindergarten screening.

The earlier that we hear from you the faster we can schedule appointments for you to come and visit. Depending on where you live in our district, you need to give us a call at one of the phone numbers listed. Russell School 657-4929 /Memorial School 926-4322.

District: Parent Involvement in Title 1 Policy Development

From Karen Caprio, Director of Teaching and Learning

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 requires that every Local Education Agency (LEA) develop a District Level and a School Level Parent Involvement Policy. The District Design team has held the first of three meetings to review the policy and establish procedures for the Title 1 program. The history of the Title 1 program in MSAD #15, and an overview of the current Title 1 program were given by the Literacy Specialists. This presentation was followed by an activity to write the District Level Parent Involvement Policy. All of the information will be collapsed into a rough draft to be shared at our next meeting. We will also work to define the School Level Parent Involvement Policy for Title 1, and we will edit the School-Parent Compact. If you have ideas about Title 1 programming we hope you will join us.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Middle School Library. Even if you couldn't make the first meeting you are still welcome to attend the meeting on February 26th.

District: MSAD#15 Community Forum:

As part of the comprehensive education planning for MSAD#15, the Board of Directors will be hosting a community forum to gather your thoughts about the future of our schools for the next five to seven years. The Board will use the information gathered to guide their work on finance, policy, facilities and district services.

All who have an interest in the community are invited to attend one of two identical forums, which will be held on: Saturday, February 7th from 9:00 a.m. to noon, Or Wednesday, February 11th from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
Forums will be held at the Gray-New Gloucester High School Cafeteria. Childcare will be available for those who register ahead by calling Janice at 657-9211.
