4th Annual Cabaret/Fundraiser, 14 February 2004

The Maine Gay Men's Chorus will present its fourth annual Cabaret/Fundraiser, My Funny Valentine, on Saturday, February 14, 2004. This evening of entertainment will include a wide variety of music from classic musical theater tunes to hits of the 60s and will be at the Holiday Inn By The Bay, 88 Spring Street, Portland. The event, which has sold out for the past two years, will showcase the talents of 20 of the best voices in Southern Maine accompanied by a live band and hosted by Peter Stone.
Tickets may be purchased for the meal and the show, or just for the show. The dinner portion of the show begins at 6:00 pm, preceded by a cocktail hour beginning at 5 p.m. The Cabaret performance begins at 8 p.m. Dinner/performance tickets are $45, and must be purchased before 6 February to ensure placement. Tickets for just the performance may be purchased for $20 at any time, including at the door. To purchase tickets, visit Drop Me a Line in Portland or use the internet at www.MaineGayMensChorus.org.

Local High Schools to Host Music Industry Artists
On the weeks of January 26-30 and February 2-6, several area high schools, including South Portland, Scarborough, Lake Region, Fryburg Academy, Westbrook, Sanford, and Kennebunkport, will host three national award-winning musical artists for their presentation of "Down The Road: A Discussion of Music as a Profession." Two of the three artists hail from the State of Maine.

The presentation is geared to instill awareness of music industry career opportunities, the many avenues available to pursue them, and to provide "real world" advice on how to succeed in a music profession.

Maine native, multi-instrumentalist, and singer/songwriter Scotty Huff, Robert Reynolds, a founding member of The Mavericks, and Joe Smyth, continuing member of the group Sawyer Brown, are spending two weeks in Maine, traveling the state to present "Down The Road" to almost two dozen high schools and colleges. The tour is partially underwritten by American Music of Falmouth, the Starbird Music Mall of Portland, and Promark Drumsticks and Fender Guitars.
