The Vagina Monologues at USM
The Obie Award-winning play "The Vagina Monologues" by Eve Ensler will be performed at USM as part of the V-Day 2004 College Campaign.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m., on Friday, February 13, in Room 10 of Bailey Hall on the Gorham campus, at 7 p.m., on Saturday, February 14 in Luther Bonney Auditorium on the Portland campus and at noon, on Sunday, February 15 in Luther Bonney Auditorium on the Portland campus. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for non-students, seniors, and children. Advance tickets are available at the USM Portland Woodbury Campus Center in the Office of the Dean of Student Life. For ticket information call 780-4996. This show is brought to you by the University of Southern Maine Women's Resource Center and is sponsored by the USM Student Senate and The Portland Phoenix.

"The Vagina Monologues" examines the mystery, humor, wisdom and pain buried in women's experiences. Based on interviews with hundreds of women, It has been performed by Ensler throughout the world to great acclaim. This is a benefit for Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine, Family Crisis Services, and Spotlight of Missing and Murdered Women in Juarez. The performance is run and performed by USM students.

Autumn in February at the USM School of Music

The University of Southern Maine School of Music presents "In the Autumn of Their Years - and Mine," a concert highlighting oboist Neil Boyer and friends performing music written by C. Saint-Saens, Francis Poulenc, and Richard Strauss in the later years of each composer's life. USM School of Music faculty members Boyer and Ardith Keef, bassoon, are joined by friends Martin Perry, piano, and Karen Beacham, clarinet.

"In The Autumn of Their Years - and Mine" is part of the annual Faculty Concert series. The concert will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2004, in Corthell Concert Hall on the USM Gorham campus. A reception will follow the concert in the first floor lobby of Corthell Hall. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $7 for seniors, and $5 for. Call 780-5555 for more information.

Franco Fry or Pardon My French
In the land of hyphenated identity, Susan Poulin sets out on the sometimes humorous, sometimes treacherous path to reconnect with her Franco-American heritage in her newest show, Franco Fry or Pardon My French. L/A Arts will present one performance only of Franco Fry or Pardon My French in Lewiston on Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at 8 p.m. in the Lewiston Middle School Auditorium, 75 Central Avenue, Lewiston (next to the Armory). Franco Fry is an L/A Arts Mainstage Event, a series sponsored by Rowe Auburn-Rowe Lewiston. Tickets for Franco Fry or Pardon My French are $15--$10 for kids, full-time students and seniors 60+. Tickets are $2 more at the door and all seats are reserved. Dreams of Elysia: The critically acclaimed play DREAMS OF ELYSIA produced by Two Lights Theatre Ensemble and written by Portland playwright Sean Demers will air on Portland's local community television station, Channel 4, in February. Originally presented at the St. Lawrence Arts Center in January, the play follows a day in the life of Elysia who confronts emotions of love and hate toward her domestically abusive husband as he lay in a coma after a workplace accident.

The air times are as follows: Every Saturday in Feb. at 9 p.m., Every Sunday in Feb. at 3 a.m.

Once again Two Lights Theatre Ensemble will challenge the Portland community to discuss, through theatre, the burning issue of domestic violence.

Dreams of Elysia is co-sponsored by Family Crisis Services and USM's Women's Resource Center, written and directed by Portland playwright Sean Demers, will be performed January 8-17 at the St. Lawrence Arts and Community Center on Munjoy Hill, 76 Congress Street in Portland. Weeknight performances are at 7:30 p.m. 1/8-10, 1/14-17; Sunday matinee on 1/11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for General Admission, $8 for seniors, and $6 for Students. Forever Plaid: David Lock, Veteran Director/Actor at Lewiston-Auburn's Community Little Theatre, is announcing "Forever Plaid" by Stuart Ross for the March 5-14 production. Lock will both direct and produce the nostalgic musical/comedy that takes us down memory lane back to the fabulous fifties "pre Rock 'n Roll." Performance dates are March 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 8 pm and Sunday matinees on March 7 and 14 at 2 pm. All performances are at The Great Falls Performing Arts Center on Academy St., Auburn.
