Caught at the Crossroads

Scrapbooking:
The Gray Public Library hosted an Overview of Scrapbooking
on Wednesday, January 28, presented by Claudette Simms
of the Memorybook Workshop on Portland Road in Gray.
Scrapbooking is a fun and meaningful way to protect
your photographs and keep your memories alive, according
to Lisa Bearnson, editor of Creating Keepsakes Magazine.
However, scrapbooking is more than just making an
album, Simms noted. "You can make collages, cards
and framed pictures."
Anyone interested in learning about scrapbooking can
find ideas in scrapbook and craft magazines, on website,
or even TV shows. The Memorybook Workshop holds weekly
classes most Wednesdays and Saturdays, and has supplies
and guidance for local scrapbookers. The Memorybook
may be reached at 657-4566.
Simms recommends scrapbookers use archivally-safe
products, which are acid- and lignin-free to prevent
damaging photographs. A photo-safe adhesive is important
to avoid yellowing them.
Taking time to organize photographs will make scrapbooking
easier, Simms suggests. Start with small groups of
photos to keep from getting overwhelmed. One attendee
explained she has "thirty years of photographs
and two grown children I'd like to make albums for."
