Ask The Monument

I have lived in New Gloucester for almost six years. Around the GNG area I have seen shoes hanging from the power lines. I am very curious why the shoes are there. Do they have some special meaning or are kids just seeing how many they can get up there?

Dear Community Member and Reader,

Thank you for asking The Monument about the shoes on the power lines. Call it spring fever, but as far as we know, they have no special meaning, other than to the kids who see how many they can get up there...

The shoes shown above were snapped on lines hanging above Shaker Road.
