Public baked Bean supper: At AMVET Hall, Rt. 100, New Gloucester, Sat. Feb. 21, from 5-6 p.m. Adults $6, children $2. Beans, Chop Suey, Hot dogs, Cole slaw, Biscuits, brown bread, pie.

Patriot Grandstand Club Ice-Fishing Tournament - The Patriot Grandstand Club is sponsoring an ice-fishing tournament on Saturday, February 28th at Sabbathday Lake (Route 26, beach side). Registration starts at 6:00 a.m. at the Sabbathday Grange Hall. The tournament starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. The fee is $10.00 per person or $15.00 per family. Tickets may be purchased at Gray Tru-Value, Mooney's Bait Shop and Dry Mills Store. Lunch and refreshments will be available at the Sabbathday Grange. Proceeds will support the GNG football program.

Prizes will be awarded for the biggest (heaviest) fish: First place is $100. Second place is $75.00. Third place is $50.00 and a $25.00 savings bond will be awarded to the junior (under 12) participant catching the biggest fish. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

The Grandstand Club is also planning a prom fashion show for March and a spaghetti dinner, tentatively for April. Watch for more information about these event.

Hockey news
: In Middle School hockey action Sunday night (during the Super Bowl!) GNG-Poland suffered another loss against Massabesic 3 to 0. Nick Roy & Sean Bilodeau shared goalie duties for GNG-Poland. Scoring for Massebesic were Tim Jerkell, Trevor Sage & Brandon Levesque. Assists went to Jerkell & Levesque.

Chicken Pot Pies! At the Sabbathday Lake grange fishing derby on Sat., Feb. 7, members will be on hand to sell chicken pot pies and lunch to the public as well as derby participants. They will be available from 9-3 or while supply lasts. Reserve yours at 998-2586. Lunch will be chop suey, chili, snadwiches, hot and cold drinks, and desserts. Eat there or take it to go any tme after 10.

Gray Little League Registrations: During registrations we hope you'll come forward and volunteer your time. We'll also be accepting letters of intent to manage & coach teams. Poland Fire Rescue Pancake breakfast: All you can eat! February 15, 2004. 7-11 a.m. Poland Community School, Rt. 26, Maine St., Poland. Serving pancakes, eggs, ham, bacon, coffee, and more…$4 per person ages 6 and up. All proceeds to benefit Poland Fire-rescue.

Ski Talk: Join Glenn Parkinson, President of the New England Ski Museum and Author of "First Tracks: A History of Skiing in Maine,"on Friday, January 30th for a fascinating look at skiing through Maine's past. Learn about forgotten ski trails, winter carnivals and unusual events, ski trains and the innovators that have made up Maine's skiing heritage. Admission is free. The talk is from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Mount Washington Room, The Commons at Pineland Farms.

Ice Fishing Tournament, Feb. 7: Remember that the annual Ice Fishing Tournament sponsored by the First Congregational-Christian Church of New Gloucester takes place on Sabbathday Lake on Saturday, February 7, from 6 am to 4 pm. After you catch that Big One, take it to the tournament's headquarters, the Sabbathday Lake Grange, on Rt. 26, to be weighed. Also, refreshments will be available at the Grange.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Cloutier's Market and Wing's Variety, on Rt. 100, New Gloucester; Buddy's Store, Rt. 26, New Gloucester; Dag's Bait Shop, Towle St., Auburn; or from Tournament Chairman Roger Hines (926-3943). First prize: An ice augur from Dick's Sporting Goods; Second prize: an Indian basket and five traps; Third prize: $50 L.L. Bean gift certificate. Also there will be many door prizes. Note: All state fishing laws must be observed, and the judge's decision will be final.

The proceeds of this tournament will sponsor a family for a week at Camp
Sunshine, a camp for children with life-threatening diseases. Thanks to all who plan to support this event, and watch these pages for the announcement of the winners.
