New Gloucester Historical Society Will Feature Architecture at March Meeting
An architectural history of Portland will be the program for the March 18th meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society. The slide presentation will be given by Daphne Meyer of Greater Portland Landmarks. Notable landmarks and little known gems will be featured. IMPORTANT NOTE: The program will begin at 7 pm. Refreshments and the business meeting will follow the program. The meeting will be held at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Rd. (next to the Town Hall).

Hockey news: In Sunday night middle school hockey action, 6th place GNG/Poland Middle School handed 1st place Gorham Middle School their 3rd loss with a score of 5 to 4. Codie Keene scored a hat trick for GNG/Poland and Johnny Conant & Jarred Murphy each added one. Assists went to Conant, Murphy, Ben Piper & Gardner Lajoie. Nick Roy & Sean Bilodeau shared goalie duties. Scoring for Gorham were David Gushee with a hat trick and one for Matt Roberts, all unassisted. Donny Gearon was goalie.

Bottle Drive: Just a reminder that the GNG French Club will be collecting returnables Sunday, March 7, starting at 1 p.m. To have returnables picked up, call Deb Gellerson (428-3739), Claudette Simms (657-2301) or Gail Hare at 657-2134.

Also, the Springtime Candy Sale with delicious confections from Wilburs of Freeport, Maine is still going on. Last day for orders is Tuesday, March 9th. Call if you'd like to place an order for an Easter Basket, a flop-ear bunny in three flavors, a little chocolate bunny, a box of assorted chocolates, a cute bunny pop and also whimsical carrots!

Girl Scout Cookies have arrived! Come meet the girls of Troop #660 and buy your Girl Scout Cookies Saturday, March 6 from 9 am - 2pm at Wing's Tank and Tummy in Upper Gloucester. We have a new cookie this year called Pinatas. They are awesome! Tell your friends and family about the sale and hope to see you there!

Public Baked Bean Supper: at the AMVET Hall, Route 100, New Gloucester on Saturday from 5 to 6 pm.

Evening with Bob Marley: Raymond Elementary School and the Jordan-Small Middle School are presenting an evening with comedian Bob Marley. This fund raising event will be held on Friday, March 12 at 8:00 PM in the Jordan-Small Middle School gym. All proceeds will be used to benefit classroom programs and field trips that were trimmed from last year's budget. Doors open at 7:00 PM and desserts and drinks will be available before and after the show. What a great way to have an adult evening out, chase away the winter blues, and support your schools! Tickets are $15 and are available in advance at the RES and JSMS school offices, the Good Life Market, Raymond True Value and Danielle's Sebago Diner.

Wanted - football equipment
from former Little Lad Players: If you have wanted to do something with your old football equipment, here's your chance. Trying to start a 5th and 6th grade Rec. Football program in Gray-New Gloucester and need equipment for the players. Please donate the gear so someone can put it to good use! For more information, or if you would like to help, please contact the Gray Rec Department at 657-2323 or Michael Ouellette at 782-6935.

Youth Football: There is an effort to form a 5th and 6th grade Rec Travel Football Team and a 3rd and 4th grade Flag Football program in Gray-New Gloucester for 2004. The 5th and 6th grade team would be a full contact travel team that practices Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm - 7pm with games on the weekends. The program will play teams in the surrounding area with scheduled games. Players would pay a registration fee of $75 to play in the program with all the equipment supplied to each player.

The Flag Football Team is more of an in-house program that would teach the fundamentals of football to the players. Players would practice Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm - 7pm and play against each other with possible scrimmages with other teams. Registration would also be $75 to play with equipment supplied to each player. The registration fee is used to run both teams and stays within the rec football program to pay for referees, insurance and equipment. This announcement is to inform the community of the efforts to start a team through the Rec Department and to see how many players would join the program. If interested in playing or helping contact the Gray Rec. Department at 657-2323 or Michael Ouellette at 782-6935.

AA Meetings: Mondays 10:30-noon, Thursdays, 8-9 p.m. Al-Anon meetings: Thursdays, 8-9 p.m. All are held at St. Gregory's Parish hall, North Raymond Road, Gray. All are welcome.

Pre-Prom Fashion Show: The Patriot Grandstand Club is planning a Pre-Prom Fashion Show for Saturday, March 13th, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the high school's West Gym . David's Bridal and Mr. Tux will be providing formalwear. Jane Seavey of Mary Kay Cosmetics will be providing make up for our models; stylists Renee Woodley, Tammy Colbath and Simone Barcia of Special Effects Salon & Day Spa will provide hairstyling for our models; the Ladyslipper Flower Shop will be providing flowers for the show.
