One Great Hour Of Sharing:

The First Congregational Church of New Gloucester will receive a special offering on Easter Sunday, April, 11, 2004. One Great Hour of Sharing funds the ministries of the United Church of Christ, which reach out around the world in compassion, adding hope and dignity to life for many people.

The media often show us the drama of war and disaster and document the suffering of millions of people who lack food, water, shelter, and other basic necessities. When survivors are able to start over, your gift of $30.00 can help 300 families to plant gardens, with each receiving a set of ten seed packets.

Your gift of $5.00 will supply a warm blanket; your gift of $90.00 will provide an uprooted family with a tent, ground cloth, tarpaulin, and four blankets. We know the needs are real. Please give to One Great Hour of Sharing. Indeed, it's remarkable what your gift can do.

Peace and Blessings, Erin Pendexter, Board of Missions

What's Cool In Our Schools:

Memorial School Poster Contest

This trimester Mrs. Bearce's second grade class has been studying about our Earth in Social Studies. Part of this included caring for our Natural Resources - air, water, forests, and soil. We have read several books about environmental issues, both fictional and informational. A particular favorite was The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.

Each year the Environmental Protection Agency sponsors an awareness project for students in K-2. This year it is a poster contest. After each child decided upon an environmental problem of interest, our Art teacher, Mrs. Eslinger, discussed lettering, colorfulness, and presenting a clear message. Several staff members then selected the two posters they viewed as best meeting the established criteria of a clear environmental message and outstanding art work for the student's grade level. Two second grade students, Josie Heston and Cody Brann, had posters selected to be mailed into the contest. The remaining posters will be displayed at Memorial School.

Here is what Cody had to say about his poster - "If people cut down too many trees, we will not have as much oxygen. So people should plant new trees." Josie said, "Animals are important and we need to help them. Dolphins get caught in the tuna nets and they either get cut from the nets or they can't swim to the surface to breathe so they drown."

Arts & Cultural Festival
The Gray-New Gloucester Middle School PTSA Cultural Enrichment Committee in conjunction with Fiddlehead Center for The Arts is planning a Middle School Art & Cultural Festival. All GNG Middle School students will attend the daylong event scheduled for Friday, May 14 at the Fiddlehead Center For The Arts, 83 Pineland Drive, New Gloucester. Students will experience the ultimate cultural event with live music, craft stations, kite making with Northern Sky Toys, mask making, Musical Petting Zoo, Rhythm Jungle, Hip-Hop dance lessons, wheel throwing, hand drumming, games from around the world, and Global Village educational and cultural enrichment activities representing Latin America/Spain, Quebec, North America (Native American and folk), Celtic, and Africa.

An Invitation To The GNG High School Class of 2004
The GNG PTSA is proud to offer two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. Interested students will prepare a short essay addressing the benefits of living in Gray or New Gloucester and attending MSAD #15 schools.

The essay should be typewritten and not exceed 1500 words. Please include your name, date, and future college plans in the upper right-hand corner of the first sheet. The PTSA will not review essays submitted with additional material. Additional materials include cover letter, letters of reference, application, school transcript, and résumés. Please submit entries to the GNG High School Guidance Office no later than May 3, 2004.
