NG Library Friends meet: The annual meeting of the Friends of the New Gloucester Library will be held on Tuesday, May 18th, 2004 at 7pm in the meeting room at the New Gloucester Library. We hope to see you there!!
High School Clean up: On Saturday May 1st the plan is to meet at the high school from 8:00-12:00 to paint the lobby and spruce up the gardens. If you have a rake, please bring it along with you. Notice of this has gone out to the Student Council, Octagon Club, National Honor Society and Class Advisors. Hopefully a lot will get done in a little bit of time. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call Nancy LaFleur at 657-9303.

The Pine Tree Post Card Club announces its Annual Spring Post Card Show, to be held on Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Ave., Portland, Maine (behind West Gate Shopping Center, Outer Congress St.). The hours are 9:00 to 4:00, with a requested donation of $3.00. Plenty of parking, a snack bar, appraisals and supplies will be available, along with over 20 post card dealers. Meatballs! Tuttle Road United Methodist Church, 52 Tuttle Road, Cumberland, will hold its semi-annual Swedish Meatball Supper on Saturday, May 15 with seatings at 5 and 6:30. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. For reservations, contact Donna Kane at 829-4397.

Baked Bean And Chop Suey Supper: Saturday, May 8, 5:00pm-6:30pm, First Congregational Church of New Gloucester, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester, ME, Adults $6, 12 and under $2.50.

By popular demand, we are now serving hot dogs. Also homemade biscuits, cole slaw, brown bread, and cream pies. For more information call 926-4498 or 926-3260.

Maine Genealogical Society meets: The Greater Portland Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will hold its May Meeting on Saturday May 1, at 1:00 pm. For the next two months our meetings will be in a new location. We will me meeting in the Conference Room of the Family History Center of the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints at 29 Ocean House Road in Cape Elizabeth. The Center is located on Rte 77 just south of the South Portland Line and north of Spurwink Avenue. Please come to the North Entrance, Rear door.

After the monthly business meeting, the speaker will be retired sportswriter Bob Greene. Bob is a member of our group and at least seven generations of his family were born in Cumberland County. He will speak on his search for his roots and their correlation to the history of African Americans in this area. Bob is a Portland High Alumnus and spent his working career as a sportswriter throughout the US working for various newspapers and the AP. He retired in 2001 to Maine and still does periodic journalistic assignments when the topic and location are right. His search for his roots has been the subject of several articles in local papers.
