When Options Collide
So many buildings, so little money

Gray Business Association on Pennell

The Monument's Question to the GBA:

We are doing an article on the Town's & SAD's challenge of dealing with owning a plethora of historic buildings and needing to decide how to pay for maintenance and/or sell them. I am soliciting different perspectives from various individuals and organizations for comment in the article.

Currently, the Town of Gray and the SAD own several prime properties in the vibrant business District, (Central office, Old Post Office, Town Office, Stimson Hall, Monument Park, Pennell Institute, Pennell Lab, Old Town Hall/Fire Station...)

What is the GBA's position on what the highest and best use for these properties might be as the Town/SAD considers selling/reconfiguring them?
What is the GBA's vision for Gray Center, and how do the properties mentioned above fit in with the Association's vision?

The GBA's Answer:
Leo Credit is GBA President

Credit: The GBA wishes to support the Town of Gray's vision within the newly completed comprehensive plan. We believe that the facilities should be utilized to benefit the community as much as possible provided that the town and MSAD 15 can do this cost effectively.

Upkeep of the properties to help retain their individual charm and historic value should also be a priority so that they do not become idle eyesores.
From a personal perspective it would be nice to see them consolidate into the Pennell complex and sell or develop the current town office and old post office.
