District
On January 15th, the district held the first of three Design Team meetings with the focus on Title I. There was a small turnout but an excellent presentation by the Literacy Specialists. Deb Shaw gave a high level overview of the history of Title I in MSAD#15. Then each of the Literacy Specialists shared what was happening in their respective buildings. Participants talked about the changes that are needed in Title I under the NCLB regulations. Three important pieces of information must be developed:

1. District Level Parent Involvement Policy
2. School Level Parent Involvement Policy
3. Parent Compact

The group tackled the first policy, District Level Parent Involvement. At the end of the meeting, they looked at the individual pieces that would make up the plan; at the next meeting they will look at the plan in its entirety and make suggested modifications. The School Level Policy and the Parent Compact will be developed at the next meeting on February 26th.

Russell
A report from principal Ellen Beale:

This month I would like to recognize Deb Sylvester, first grade teacher, for opening her heart and her classroom to our newest student, Sandip (pronounced Sudeep) Stauble, who comes to us from Calcutta, India. She and her classroom have welcomed him with open arms, and made his entry into the world of public school a joyful one. Sandip was recently adopted by the Stauble family. He comes to our community learning the love of family, friendship, and the love of learning. Sandip is a delightful first grader, and is very fortunate to have many resources and willing schoolmates to help him. We are delighted to have Sandip in our school.

Pledge of Allegiance:

Russell students will be audiotaped saying the "Pledge of Allegiance" on February 26th. The school will let everyone know when it will be broadcast on WPOR-radio.
