Obituary/Tribute

Alberta "DeeDee" Blais 85

Gray- Alberta M. Blais, 85, died February 25, 2004 at Freeport Nursing Home. She was born Consetta May Cavallero on September 12, 1918, a daughter of Louis and Catherine Cavallero. The name "Alberta" came from her 12 brothers and sisters as a nickname, and stuck with her throughout her life.

A lot of family and friends knew her as DeeDee, which was created by grandson Dave because he couldn't say MiMi.

On September 30, 1937, she married Edmund Blais, who died March 26, 1988. They lived on Long Hill Road in Gray for years and years, then moved to Route 115 for several more years. Later in their lives they moved to Brunswick. As DeeDee got older, she moved back to Gray to live with her daughter.

One of her daughters, Carol Finocchietti, passed away on May 14, 1997.
Surviving out of 12 brothers and sisters is one brother, Joseph Cavallero of Portland. She is also survived by three daughters, Shirley McLain of Gray, Deborah Troup of Pueblo, CO, and Joanna Winfield of Augusta.

She had 10 grandchildren: David Finocchietti Jr. of Buxton, Tony Finocchietti of Gray, Dianna Thurlow of Poland, Aaron Jacobs of New Hampshire, Nichole Jacobs of Brunswick, DeAnn Thompson of New Gloucester, Tegan Jacobs of Augusta, Courtney Barth of Ohio, Meghan Troup of Colorado, and Ryan Troup of Colorado. There are nine great-grandchildren: Melissa and Ashley Thurlow, Brittney and Anthony Finocchietti Jr, David H. Finocchietti, Layne, Haylee, and Xander Thompson, and Garrett Barth.

DeeDee was a great person. She taught us all so much. Some things she used to tell us, "Put some extra clothes on that kid", "Are you hungry?", "Let me get you something", "Are you sure?", "What can I do to help?", "You better behave or you'll get a backhander", "Where did I put that yardstick?". Of course, she never used it. She kept us all in line.

She was a 61 year member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness's. Her faith was very strong and was an inspiration to all of us.

DeeDee will be missed by everyone she ever touched.

I love you and will miss you forever DeeDee. Until the new system of things….

Your Grandson, Tony
