Lesbian Gay Political Alliance Honors New Gloucester
Youth
Kelly Coughlin to be feted
New Gloucester, Maine-- The Maine Lesbian Gay Political
Alliance (MLGPA) will honor Kelly Coughlin of New
Gloucester for outstanding youth leadership in promoting
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality
during the organization's 20th Anniversary Celebration
on March 20, 2004 from 6-9 pm at the Holiday Inn by
the Bay in Portland.
Coughlin is one of the "20 under 20" youth
leaders who will be recognized during the evening
festivities.
As the New England Regional Youth Organizer for GLSEN,
Kelly Coughlin is responsible for planning and implementing
the Day of Silence in hundreds of high schools throughout
New England. In addition, she plays an active youth
leadership role at Portland Outright. She is the facilitator
of the Program Advisory Council and plays an enormous
role in supporting and organizing other youth to join
leadership teams at Outright. Kelly is committed to
activism and promoting leadership opportunities for
young people.
Other festivities for the evening include: Governor's
address by Gov. John Baldacci; remembrance and recognition
of leaders in Maine's LGBT movement; the public debut
of the traveling exhibition of the LGBT Collection
of the Jean Byers Sampson Center for Diversity in
Maine at the University of Southern Maine; and a feature
presentation celebrating two decades years of grassroots
action and unveiling MLGPA's new vision for equality
in Maine.
The event is open to the public. Reservations are

Kelly Coughlin: New Gloucester

Lyndon
Cudlitz: Yarmouth
Lyndon Cudlitz began hir commitment to youth leadership
by starting a Gay Straight Alliance in hir high school
in Yarmouth, Maine. Through hir involvement at Portland
Outright, Lyndon has continued to be a strong youth
voice, serving on the Youth Summit planning committee
in 2002, becoming an active speaker in Outright's
Speaker's Bureau, serving on the Program Advisory
Committee for more than two years, and recently joining
Outright's board of directors. From 2002-2003, zi
served as the program coordinator at the GLBTQ center
at the University of Southern Maine, and served on
the
"Take Back the Night" planning committee
in 2003. A full-time student, Lyndon also works as
an EMT/firefighter.
