Have a Heart?
By Molly Mooney, MSAD 15 Middle School student

On Tuesday February 10, 2004, nurses Kate Wurgler and Janet Maguire came to GNG Middle School to show Mr. Curran's and Ms. Leavitt's classes a deer heart and lungs. At the time we were learning about the circulatory system, and how the lungs and heart work. They showed us the deer heart and pointed out the four chambers and the arteries and veins that carry blood to and from the heart. We also saw a deer's lungs and they explained and showed us how they expand and go flat again.

They also brought in a heart monitor. Students were hooked up and they were able to see their heart rate change from standing still to jumping ten times as high as they could. It was a very interesting science class. We would like to thank Kate Wurgler and Janet Maguire for their great presentation, along with the Gray EMS for sharing their equipment. We would also like to thank the nurse's helpers; Hannah Wurgler and Emily Maguire.

It was a class to remember for the 6th grade Renaissance Regiment team at GNG Middle School
