Maine
informational website launched
Maine.Info (www.maine.info) launched recently and
has become a leader in Maine information. Owner Gary
Korn said that he started the site from "a desire
to help disseminate information about traveling to
and living in Maine. It is a home-grown effort, not
funded by a travel company or by government. It has
grown into a labor of love, and an opportunity to
help organizations, associations and businesses throughout
the State of Maine."
Korn said that he has spent over 100 hours collecting
information from over 60 chambers of commerce in Maine.
Moreover, Maine.Info lists many charitable organizations,
from birding to the performing arts. Upcoming events
are uploaded as they are announced.
Maine.Info is intended to be easy to use, and to help
present information in an accessible manner.
The "Brochures" section of Maine.Info lists
the links businesses need in order to request brochures
directly from the State, from the Maine Tourism Association
and from the 60 Chambers of Commerce. "This feature
has been a big hit," Korn said.
An additional feature is in the "Jobs" category.
"Rather than just list some job search engines,
I scoured the websites of employers throughout Maine
and included, on Maine.Info, the human resource pages
of these companies. Now, using Maine.Info, people
can go directly to company websites and find available
job listings," Korn explained.
Maine.Info reports that the site is receiving getting
over 10,000 site visits per month, with people viewing
almost 40,000 pages per month.
Maine.Info is also one of just 16 websites listed
not just in a Google search, but in the Google Directory
for Maine (Travel & Tourism - Guides). It takes
it place alongside websites run by the State, a major
newspaper and other very well known companies. "A
particularly nice recognition was by Afilias, the
entity that runs the entire .INFO internet domain.
They have cited to Maine.Info as one of a few "Great
INFO Sites". It is quite an honor to be listed
alongside the Austrian and Spain National Tourism
Offices, and more so to be recognized by the very
creator of the .INFO domain."
