Collins Celebrates Mainer Named "Army National
Guard Soldier Of The Year"
Sergeant First Class Paul Pratt of New Gloucester
receives national award
Washington, DC - Senator Susan Collins offered her
congratulations to Sergeant First Class Paul Pratt
of New Gloucester, who was named an Army National
Guard Soldier of the Year for 1st Army North. Sergeant
Pratt was honored at a ceremony last night at Fort
McNair in Washington, DC.
"All of us in Maine, and especially Sergeant
Pratt's wife Debra, have a reason to be proud of him.
The recognition he has earned is well-deserved,"
Senator Collins said.
Sergeant Pratt has twenty years of honorable service
in the Army National Guard. He has received the Meritorious
Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good
Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement
Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and many others.
He is currently assigned to the Recruiting and Retention
Command at the Military Entrance Processing Station
in Portland. Sergeant Pratt has managed and developed
complex automation systems.

Margaret Licht and Greg Gallagher win scholarships:
Two students from Gray, Margaret Licht and Greg Gallagher,
who attend Gray-New Gloucester High School, were each
awarded $2,500 by the Discover Card Tribute Award
Scholarship program.
Discover Card is awarding more than $1 million in
scholarships to high school juniors as part of the
Discover Card Tribute Scholarship program. Given in
cooperation with the American Association of School
Administrators, scholarships are awarded to high school
juniors who have demonstrated excellence in many areas
of their lives, not just academics. This year, winners
were selected from a pool of over 4,500 applicants.
Students must maintain a minimum 2.75 grade point
average and demonstrate accomplishments in special
talents, leadership, and community service, while
successfully overcoming a roadblock or challenge.

Tom Allen Announces 2004 Service Academy Appointments
Six Maine young people have accepted and will begin
their service in June
Washington, D.C.-U.S. Representative Tom Allen announced
that several Maine young people he nominated to the
nation's service academies in November 2003 have received
and accepted appointments.
