Caught at the Crossroads

This crash occurred at 7:40. The crunch time for commuters in Gray is between 7:30- 8:15 or so. Many, many cars try to get through the state's worst intersection on and onto the Maine Turnpike, or one of the other five State Routes that intersect nearly in front of The Monument offices.

Its heralding was a bang and tinkling glass, shortly followed by shouting.

How it happened: Exiting Shell customer was waved across double line
of traffic to turn left and head north, southbound commuter did not see exiting car across lane 1, was traveling at fairly good clip for being just feet from an intersection, a costly front quarter head-on crash ensued.

Smoke, glass.

Arms waving, much gesticulation. Some directed at the newspaper lady
taking photos.

Shell Station employee rushes out with fire extinguisher and applies to smoking car. Cumberland Farms employee rushes out with broom, removes the glass.

6 minutes later personnel arrived on scene.

No injuries. Traffic is managed.

Gestculation ensues from stopped commuters.

Newspaper lady has now procured coffee and has an illustration to add
to the Bypass blurb.

Another day begins.
