Kristin
T. Ehnstrom, daughter of Marti Ehnstrom of Gray and
the late A. Skip Ehnstrom, to Patrick L. Davis, son
of Lawrence and Nancy Davis of North Berwick, are
excited to announce their engagement.
The wedding is set for June 4, 2005 in Cape Elizabeth.
The couple will continue to reside in Burbank, California
after a honeymoon to Australia.

Connie Adams, Manager of the Year: Connie Adams,
General Manager of Ride-Away in Gray, has been voted
Manager of the Year by Ride-Away Handicap Equipment
Corp. of Londonderry, NH. Ride-Away is one of eight
satellite stores along the east coast, from Virginia
to Maine. There are over 150 people in the company
who voted Connie the best. The award, voted on by
the entire company, was presented to Ms. Adams on
the fourth of December.
Gray Ride-Away, at 32 Lewiston Road, opened in April
2003 with a staff of 4 and has been growing steadily
ever since. There is currently a team of 10 who work
closely with clients to adapt their vehicles with
ramps, lifts and hand controls for handicap accessibility
and independence.
Connie would like to express her appreciation for
the cooperation and team work provided from the Gray
satellite location.

Payton James Hamilton: Jennifer James and Richard
Hamilton Jr. of New Gloucester are the parents of
a son, Payton James Hamilton, born at Mercy Hospital
on December 16, 2004. Grandparents are Walter and
Naomi James of Palm Bay, Florida and Richard and Jen
Hamilton of Turner, Maine. Carole Bruce of Gorham
is the great grandmother.
Master
Gardener Program: The University of Maine Cooperative
Extension invites interested persons to apply for
the Cumberland County Master Gardener Program. A Master
Gardener is a trained volunteer of the University
of Maine Cooperative Extension. They receive 45 hours
of practical training in basic horticulture with sessions
in soil science, botany, entomology, plant disease,
garden problem solving, pruning and more. After the
training, each Master Gardener agrees to "give
back" 40 hours of volunteer time over a 12-month
period as a participant in any one or more of numerous
community-based projects around the county.
The 2005 training program will feature ornamental
horticulture with sessions on trees, shrubs, flowers,
lawns and landscape design. The sessions are lead
by Extension Educator Richard Brzozowski and include
several University of Maine faculty and area gardening
experts as instructors. Applications are available
by calling the Cumberland County office of the University
of Maine cooperative Extension at 1-800-287-1471 or

The deadline for applications is 4:30 pm, Friday,
January 21, 2005.
Beekeeping
Course: The University of Maine Cooperative Extension
in cooperation with Pineland Farms will be offering
a multi-session beekeeping course on consecutive Monday
evenings beginning February 28th. Classes will be
held at the Pineland Campus in New Gloucester, from
6:30 - 8:30 pm at the Visitors Center. The course
will feature state apiarist Tony Jadczak and experienced
beekeeper Bob Egan. The fee is $75 per person/couple
and covers the cost of the textbook, a bee disease
publication, and the beekeepers reference notebook.
There will be 5 classroom sessions and a beekeepers
field day scheduled for June. The course is limited

Colin
Woodard lecture and book signing: The Tate House
Museum of Portland will present a lecture and book
signing by Colin Woodard, author of "The Lobster
Coast: Rebels, Rusticators, and the Struggle for a
Forgotten Frontier", on January 12, 2005 at 11:45
am at the First Parish Church, 425 Congress Street,

Volkssport Association meeting: The Southern
Maine Volkssport Association invites you to attend
its holiday Potluck Supper and Meeting to be held
January 12th, the second Wednesday of January, at
the Maine Audubon Society, 20 Gilsland Farm Road,
Falmouth, Maine. There will be a social hour from
5 - 6 pm, a meal at 6, and the meeting at 7 pm. Members
and guests are welcome for an evening of food (bring
a potluck dish to share), fun and friendship. The

man's English castle at New Gloucester Historical
Society: Henry Robinson of Cape Elizabeth bought
a home in England that has become one of the most
visited places in the southern part of the country.
Learn and see more about this place at the next meeting
of the New Gloucester Historical Society. The program
will be presented by Leonard Brooks at the January
20, 2005 meeting of the Society. The evening begins
with a business meeting at 7:30 pm at the New Gloucester
Meetinghouse, followed by refreshments and the program.

Wintertime
Art Show and Sale at Skillins Greenhouses
Skillins
Greenhouse in Cumberland is hosting a Wintertime Art
Show and Sale beginning Saturday, January 15th - Wednesday,
January 26th. Many local artists and photographers
are presenting their work, and the show is free to
the public. Last year more than one hundred and fifty
artists participated in this event.
Customers who attend the Cumberland show will be able
to choose from a complimentary rose or African violet.
Those who attend shows at all three Skillins locations
(Brunswick, Cumberland and Falmouth) will receive
a $10.00 gift certificate, no purchase necessary;
see a sales associate for details. On Saturday, January
22nd from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the artists will be available
