Gray
Extension Group to meet
Wednesday, April 6, at 9:30 a.m. in the Gray Congregational
Church Parish House on Brown Street. The program will
be presented by Tracy Purcell, who runs the Snow Hill
Soap Company. She will give us a brief history of
how she started her company and how she makes the
soap. The public is welcome to attend the program
which will start at 10:30 a.m. The members will have
a bag lunch following the program, and bring items

Southern
Maine Volkssport Association meeting:
The Southern Maine Volkssport Association invites
you to attend its monthly meeting to be held at 7
p.m. on April 13th, the second Wednesday of the month,
at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main Street, Westbrook,
Maine. The guest speaker will be Don Curry from the
Seashore Trolley Museum. He will be showing slides
and talking about the Riverton Trolley Park. Join
in for an evening of food, fun, and friendship. Come
and find out what SMVA is all about. The meeting is
open to all, and everyone is welcome.
Windham
Center Stage Theater to receive award
The Cumberland County Child Abuse and Neglect Council
will present one of its annual Child Abuse Prevention
Awards to Mary Wassick and Windham Center Stage Theater.
The award celebrates the promise of prevention by
recognizing individuals and organizations who have
done quiet, remarkable things in their communities
to create positive, significant changes for a child,
family, or community.
Because of her tireless dedication toWindham Center
Stage Theater as president and director of several
children's productions, Wassick will be honored at
a luncheon reception at the Regency Hotel on Wednesday,
April 27th, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Wassick was nominated by Kane and Kate Lucas of Windham
whose son Austin has been involved in many of WCST's
children's productions.

Academy Middle and Upper School Ski Teams Seasons
Conclude
New Gloucester, other students, earn league honors,
medal
Hebron, ME (March 17, 2005) The Hebron Academy Upper
and Middle School Alpine Skiing teams recently completed
their seasons, with several athletes earning first
place finishes and league honors along the way. Girls
and boys compete in both slalom (SL) and giant slalom
(GS) events.
Upper School
In Upper School competition (grades 9-12), the boys'
alpine skiing team placed second at the MAISAD (Maine
Association of Independent School Athletic Directors)
championship, held February 18, and the girls' team
finished third.
Top individual Hebron racers included: Vika Planson
'07 (New Gloucester), third in slalom; T.J. Thayer
'06 (Auburn), fourth in giant slalom; Jamie Tyler
'06 (Camden), sixth in giant slalom and seventh in
slalom; Alex Chabot '05 (Poland), eighth in giant
slalom; Anna Geismar '05 (Minot), 10th in giant slalom;
and Ross Thayer '08 (Auburn), 10th in slalom and 10th
in giant slalom.
Three skiers earned All-League recognition for their
standings in the MAISAD Series: Vika Planson, sixth;
Jamie Tyler, seventh; and T.J. Thayer, 10th.
Planson and Thayer also earned All-New England standing
for their top-10 finishes at the New England Prep
School Class B Alpine Ski Championships, held February
16 at Mt. Snow, Vermont. Competing against skiers
from twelve other New England teams, Thayer finished
fifth in the slalom event, and Planson placed ninth
in slalom.
Middle School
The Middle School team (grades 6-8) competed at the
State Class B Championship held March 3 at Shawnee
Peak, where the boys finished third in slalom and
seventh overall (SL and GS team points combined).
Devon Brown '10 (Newry) earned a gold medal in giant
slalom and finished fifth in the slalom. Lucas Schandelmeier
'10 (Newry) had two top-10 finishes, placing eighth
in the slalom and ninth in the giant slalom. Jack
Brink '10 (Bethel) had a ninth place finish in the
slalom, and then suffered an injury during the giant
slalom competition. Nicholas Roy '10 (New Gloucester)
helped the team secure third place in slalom. The
boys competed among 90 racers.
Kelly Phillips '09 (Auburn) had two top-10 finishes
among 66 female racers. She placed sixth in the giant
slalom and seventh in the slalom.
The following racers had first-place finishes during
regular season competition: Devon Brown (GS); Lucas
Schandelmeier (SL); Jack Brink (SL); and Jordan Ramharter
'10 (Bethel) (GS).
This is the 14th year of the Middle School ski program;
skiers practice every day after school at Lost Valley
and competed in races this year at Sunday River, Black
Mountain Ski Area, Lost Valley, and Shawnee Peak.
Four skiers on the Middle School team raced for the
first time this season.
