McKinley-Seymour

Brett and Lisa Seymour of Gray, and Brad and Anita McKinley of Arlington, Washington are pleased to announce the engagement of their children Heather A. McKinley to Jason A. Seymour. Heather is a 2001 graduate of Arlington High School in Arlington, WA and a 2005 graduate of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. She has a bachelor's degree in English. Jason is a 2000 graduate of Gray/New Gloucester High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Utah. He has a bachelor's degree in Sociology and is starting the master's degree program this fall at the University of Utah. Jason proposed to Heather in Haiti last summer. The wedding will take place at Heather's home in Arlington, WA on July 9, 2005.

Yard Sale

Annual Rhododendron Auction and Flower Show, Book And Plant Sale

Sat. June 4, 10 a.m. - Viewing 11 a.m. - Auction. USM Stone House Conference Center, Wolfe's Neck Road, Freeport. Directions: 2.25 miles past Wolfe's Neck State Park at the end of the road.

Shaker Museum to open

The Sabbathday Lake Museum, Route 26, New Gloucester, ME opens on Friday, May 27th for the 2005 season. The Museum will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 am - 4:30 pm (closed Sundays) through Columbus Day. The Shaker Museum is part of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, an active community of Shakers. New this year are Family Workshops in addition to tours, gift shop and book shop, Nature Walks, Apple Saturdays, craft demonstrations and workshops. Special exhibit for 2005: "Built According to His Mind: The Works of Br. Hewitt Chandler." For more information call (207) 926-4597.

Mayberry Road Roadside Clean-up

The Crystal Lake Association will sponsor a Mayberry Road Roadside clean-up on Saturday June 4th at 9:00 am. We will meet at Wilkies Beach parking lot where we will have coffee and donuts for our volunteers. Please join us in our effort to beautify Mayberry Road. Crystal Lake Yard Sale

The Crystal Lake Association will sponsor a neighborhood yard sale on Saturday June 18th with a raindate of June 25th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may set up your sale at your residence or you may join a friend at their home. The Assoc. will take care of advertising in The Monument, Gray News, and the Portland Press Herald, and post signs at appropriate locations. June Choir Concert at 1839 Universalist Meetinghouse

The choir of the Augusta (ME) Unitarian Universalist Church will be performing in concert on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at 2:30 pm in the 1839 Universalist Meetinghouse, 1131 Intervale Rd. (Rte. 231), New Gloucester, ME. The 1839 Meetinghouse is the former home to Maine's oldest Universalist congregation and is on the National Register.
The choir director is Ray Long. The event is sponsored by the New Gloucester Historical Society, owners of the 1839 Meetinghouse. The concert is free and open to the public-donations will be welcome.

Herb Garden Design Workshop at Shaker Village

Garden layout and herb growth and uses will highlight the Herb Garden, Design Workshop at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village. Participants will also receive free herb plants from the Shaker gardens as "starter plants." The workshop will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2005 from 10 am-2pm. The cost is $40. Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship Program to Award more than $1,000,000 in Scholarships to High School Juniors Nationwide
Gray-New Gloucester Students among winners.

This year marks the 14 th year of the Tribute Awards Program. Since its inception in 1991, the Discovers Card Tribute Award Scholarship Program has awarded more than $12 million in scholarships to over 5,200 students nationwide. Given in cooperation with the American Association of School Administrators(AASA), scholarships are awarded to high school juniors who have demonstrated excellence in many areas of their lives-not just academics.

This year, winners were selected from a pool of over 4,500 applicants. While students must maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average to qualify, they must also demonstrate accomplishments in three areas including special talents, leadership, and community service, while successfully overcoming a roadblock or challenge.

Two of the nine $2,500 state scholarship recipients in Maine are: Meaghan E. Mingo of Gray, attending Cheverus High School and Augusta M. Hahnel of New Gloucester attending Gray-New Gloucester High School .

Public Supper

The American Legion Auxilliary of Gray 15 Lewiston Rd. is giving a public supper-June 4 th from 5-6 p.m. Beans, Chop Suey,Cole slaw,hot dogs, breads and pies. Adults $5.50, Children under 12 are $ 2.50 and children under 5 free.
