The American Diabetes Association and Bikers Against Diabetes Gear Up
For 2nd Annual B.A.D. Ride

Diabetes will claim more lives this year than AIDS and Breast Cancer combined. The American Diabetes Association and Bikers Against Diabetes, along with an army of volunteers are in the final stages of preparing for the BAD (Bikers Against Diabetes) Ride on Sunday, July 24th, 2005 in Augusta, Maine. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, Post #205 at 400 Eastern Ave., Route 17 in Augusta. This ride is a gypsy tour along a 100+ mile route through Maine's scenic countryside. Corporations and local businesses wishing to show their support by sponsoring rest stops, mile markers, or informational / vendor tables can contact 207-594-5254 or 207-774-7717. Saturday, July 23rd- Club Noggin invites parents and caregivers to bring their children, ages 3-6 yrs., to the mall for a free, 80 minute session where kids sing original songs, do hands-on activities and play games-all with leaders who are trained to support them. Sports- Applications are now being accepted for the 1st Annual TPS TOP 96 Invitational Softball Showcase at www.tpstop96.com. The TPS TOP 96 is being held August 17th and 18th at Martin Field in Lowell, MA. Our showcases are rated among the best in the country for matching college bound student athletes with colleges looking for players. We are looking for 144 players who can play at the college level but are not getting the exposure they need. They will showcase their skills for 130-150 college coaches and pro scouts. Over the past 11 years more the 83% of players attending our showcases have gone on to play in college. Watershed Project to Sponsor Public Meeting

-Improvements to Birch Drive, Middle Range Pond in Poland, will be the topic of discussion at a public meeting to be held at the Poland Town Hall on Wednesday, July 27th at 6:30 p.m. Anyone utilizing Birch Dr. for access to their property is encouraged to attend the meeting. AVSWCD engineer John Simon will review his plans for erosion control improvements for the road, and Richard Chick, Town Manager, with Jeff Chapelle, Poland Public works director will discuss timing of the work and construction procedures. Improvements to a section of Birch Dr. Have been prompted by a grant received by Androscoggin Valley Soil & Water Conservation District, to help protect the water quality of Middle Range Pond. The grant will pay for construction materials related to improving water quality. Funding for the Middle Range Implementation Project was provided by the Maine Department of Agriculture, and Maine DEP.
