Letters to the Editor

Editor's note: On Thanksgiving, the server hosting The Monument, in California, crashed and took with it the Monument's website (www.monumentnews.com) and all e-mails sent to us, past and present.

If you do not see your release or notice in this week's paper, that is why. Those are gone forever…We apologize for any inconvenience. Our ability to receive e-mail has been restored and the website is back up. Please send e-mail to editor@monumentnews.com. Thank you!

To the Editor:

I disagree with the entry in last week's Sound Off that referred to something called the "other paper'. We do have a local newsletter but I know of no other local newspaper except The Monument.

Also who cares what out of towners think about what goes on in our town government. I reference last week's letter by Diane Chase in the "newsletter". Obviously she was exposed to only one view put forth by the mean spirited editor of the "newsletter".

Having lived in Gray for over 30 years, I believe we the citizens have elected one of the most caring, thoughtful and considerate group of individuals to our Town Council. The individuals express themselves clearly, with thoughtful wisdom and without reservation as they represent the people who elected them. Disagreement cannot be confused with disregard and never once during my presence at council or while watching them on cable have I ever seen or heard any of them show any meanness or attack anyone.
The fact is clear - The Monument reports the news. It informs the town of more than politics. We read items to be educated, informed and just enjoy. Thanks for the good work.

Fran Monroe, Gray

Dear Editor,

More bad news in the November 24, 2005 Monument. The Gray CEDC is considering a proposal for a big box grocery store. If there is any way we can stop this, let's do it. Gray already has a wonderful grocery store in town, which is a great alternative to the big box alternatives in all surrounding towns. Do we have to we have to let another Gray small business fall to Hannaford, Shaw's, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, CVS and the like? Come on all you Gray yuppies (I should know one - I am one!) - you bought homes in Gray because they were affordable, now come on out to support the small businesses in this great town!

In other bad news, the GPLA states that the best option to gaining more library capacity is to build a new building. The Gray Public Library building is a sweet, cozy place that wraps you in its warm arms. The librarians are always close by to help and create this wonderful atmosphere. Why is bigger and newer better? Let's care for what we have and preserve a little space. Good going Andy! [Councilor Upham] Keep up the good work!

In good news, Pineland is expanding holdings in Gray and Dick Cahill is giving developers a heck of time. More productive space is what this town needs, not more buildings and services for the yuppies.

Thank you, Monument News, for keeping us informed.

Heather Maines, Gray
