I
thought I would let you know of the bills presented
so far. Last Monday (7th) I presented two bills to
the Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Both
bills were in response to an emerging situation we
are trying to avert, that being preventing Maine from
becoming a dumping ground for rapists and child molesters
from nearby urban states.
LD 285 Prevents 10 year and lifetime registered sex
offenders from establishing residence in small towns
with no established Police, and ability to moniter
them. LD 249 Imposes mandantory minimum sentences
of 10 years first offense for rapists and child molesters,
20 years for the second offense.
Another bill is in the works which requires immediate
e-mail notification of the town clerk in all communities
of the release from custody of any sex criminals as
well as renaming crimes as degrees of rape and child
molestation, instead of the current method of class
A sexual assault etc.
This Monday (14th) I presented LD 438, co-sponsored
by Senator Snowe-Mello and Rep Austin, which directs
the State Parks to take measures regarding medical
emergencies.
The measure compels park personel to be instructed
in CRP and that local emergency equipment be able
to easily enter the park. The bill responds to a recent
SIDS death and will be referred to as Olyvia's Law.
I also presented LD 383 Banning Government Conflict
of Interest, studying collective bargaining against
the taxpayer, and support of pro-bureaucracy candidates
at taxpayer's expense.
