To
the Editor:
I want to begin by thanking all of those who attended,
or forwarded comments to, the April 28 Planning Board
hearing on the proposed zone changes.
I was opposed to sending the proposals to the Planning
Board for review, as I felt that much work is yet
to be done. However, Planning Board Chair Peter Gellerson
stated at the beginning of the meeting that they would
not be making any recommendations at that time, and
that it was strictly a public hearing.
It turned out to be an excellent and productive one
at that. I wish to express my appreciation to Mr.
Gellerson and the Planning Board members for a job
well done in conducting the meeting. As I mentioned
at the meeting, they were indeed good sports for fielding
questions and drawing fire that rightfully should
have been directed at the Council.
Equally impressive was the conduct of the estimated
eighty citizens in attendance. Those who spoke were
focused on the issues at hand, and remained cordial
and respectful of their fellow citizens. Likewise,
all in attendance, regardless of the level of impact
that the proposal would have on them, remained calm
and courteous as they listened intently to the concerns
and suggestions of those speaking.
It was with pride as I watched and listened to members
of our community rationally discussing such a controversial
issue. You all should give yourselves a well deserved
pat on the back.
