Hello
to everyone from the concert:
I wanted to thank you all for a very enjoyable evening
on Thursday the 19th. I have been to many, many concerts
in my life and this was one like no other. What a
tribute you all gave to your former, beloved teacher
Lee Foster. He must have been a very special man for
all of you to honor him in the way you did. Very few
people touch the lives of high school students the
way Lee apparently did, and I am proud of all of you
for being such good stewards of his faith in you and
your abilities with your music. You are all very fortunate
to have experienced his love of music and in turn,
share your gifts and talents with others.
I am also very impressed with how you took this life
changing experience and turned it into something positive
with your new teacher Ms. Clark. We all know that
no one can fill another person's shoes; however, it
takes some pretty mature young adults to step up to
the plate and go forward with what life throws at
us. I admire you all for recognizing the reality of
your situation and not letting it get you down. I
have no doubt that the music education in Gray/New
Gloucester is alive and well with Ms. Clark leading
the "pack."
Thank you all again for your gift of music to your
community.

I
have not done any sort of investigation to check on
feasibility, but it seems to me that if the library
moves to Pennell, then the Town Offices could be accommodated
very well in the present library building on Hancock
Street.

To the Editor:
Having
had time to reflect upon the annual New Gloucester
Town Meeting, I was pleased to see participation,
which reminded me of how lucky we are to live in a
country where our views can be discussed openly, and
I am proud to live where we have the privilege to
play an active role in the decision making process.
I have traveled to several foreign countries, many
of which forbid citizens to even express an opinion,
let alone gather as a community and vote on issues
in a public forum. Though we may not always agree
on the content of warrant articles, the simple fact
that we do come together and discuss the issues publicly
speaks to the character of the community. In spite
of some disagreement, the discussions were engaging
and debated to conclusion. I was raised to be thankful
and proud to live in America, and I am always delighted
to witness democracy in action.
It is a wonderful gift that we are encouraged to participate
in this most basic liberty. We must be thankful for
the opportunity as active participants in a democratic
process that ultimately governs the greater good.
As a candidate for New Gloucester selectman, I am
honored to have the opportunity to take part in a
collective cause and to offer a meaningful contribution.
Warmest
Regards,
William Dale Maschino
