Fact, the Gray Public Library is for the use by the citizens of Gray. Fact, the GPLA was formed to assist the Gray Public Library. One of the ways to assist the library was to raise funds for a larger library. It was not specified where the library was located. Fact, the library has outgrown the present facility, for both current and future needs. Fact, the GPLA will raise funds for a larger library no matter where the facility located. Fact the GPLA does not want controversy.

Controversy is diametrically defeating to the purpose of the GPLA. Fact, the assets of the GPLA is governed by its charter and federal tax law. A quote from the instructions of form 1023 "Your organizing document must permanently dedicate your assets for a section 501(c)3 purpose. This means that if you dissolve your organization in the future, your assets must be distributed for an exempt purpose described in 501(c)3, or to the federal government, or to a state or local government for a public purpose."

Question, if the GPLA was formed to solely to assist the library, would it want to sell Pennell if that was the location of the library? Question, would the transfer of Pennell by SAD 15 to the GPLA be a quick and easy resolution to resolve a problem that has been wrestled with for years? Question, would the citizens of Gray have, in fact, ownership of Pennell if became the Gray Public Library? The name on the deed would be GPLA, but would it really make a difference if the Town of Gray had a ninety nine year, renewable lease? Question, is it easier for the GPLA to raise funds for a historic building?

Peter Gerardo,
Gray Public Trustee, member of GPLA, patron Gray Public Library

Letter to the Editor

Hello Gray: Here are a few thoughts of mine about the Pennell situation. First of all, it does not matter where the library goes. Priscilla Payne and her staff are what makes the place as good as it is. We could put the library in the back of a bowling alley and Priscilla and her people would still make it the best place in town.

Second, the council members are simply pursuing an idea given to them by John Welch. John Welch has got more brains then any ten people in Gray put together, and they are smart to take his advice. Mister Barter spent his entire career in the council talking down to people. He perceives himself as our intellectual superior. Mister Clark is the big wig of the other paper in town. He suffers from too much pomposity and a very overblown egotism. And Of Course, he is right all the time.

As for the SAD 15 crowd, all I can say is that after observing them for many years is that I would never again willingly send another child through our school system here. What they do best is eat money. Now I am sure that I have gotten everybody angry at me all over again.

Herbert Snyder, Gray

Dear Elizabeth and Jeanne;

Thank you so much for taking the time to come out and cover our PE students experiencing golf as a lifetime fitness activity. It is so vital that our schools partner with local businesses and we show the community the many things we do with students to provide them with hands on learning. This was extremely important after a school budget where the original proposal was to eliminate one of the PE teachers at the middle school. The community spoke loudly, not only about the importance of this program but they also "put their money where their mouth was" when they passed the
budget. I am proud to serve this community and these students. Thank you for the opportunity to show them that it is money well spent! You are doing a great job -please keep it up!

Ms. Craig
Physical Education Teacher
