Editor's Note

We're getting better and better! We decided to go with a color format and have worked hard these last two months to bring it about. We hope you enjoy the change. Every week the paper's look will get better as we tweak the settings and increase the crispness.

Five and a half years ago we stated our core mission, and that has not changed. We bring you unbiased information that helps inform you and enables you to make your community and political decisions. We maintain high journalism and ethical standards so that when you read The Monument Newspaper, you trust it.

We have worked hard to offer you a stellar journalistic presentation in these 16 pages that surpasses and outperforms the competition by extraordinary lengths. We've accomplished that; the high pick up rate, community accolades, and several NEPA Better Newspaper Contest Awards attest to the paper's stature.

We also love to reflect our community back to you through photographs in our paper. Adults, youths, and kids doing their thing, elected and appointed officials doing their thing, the fun, scenery, joy, tragedy, pitfalls and pratfalls that make a community bright and energetic.

With color, we can offer you a vibrant package wrapped around the exceptional writing. Your community, in color. All the news you need to know. All the stories that are interesting to read. Advertisements and photos in color.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Ray Foote and the crew at Southern Maine Newspaper Printing (SMNP). They have published The Monument since 2000, when in March of that year, we came out as a 3,500 circulation bi-weekly. They grew with us as we went weekly, increased to 5,500, and then increased circulation again to 6,000. They stuffed hundreds of thousands of inserts, they got the paper out the door on time, no matter how late I was bringing it in. Thank you Ray.

Our new printer is Central Maine Newspapers, in Augusta. They do four-process color and after careful scrutiny of the several printers around who offer color (SMNP doesn't), we chose the crew at Central Maine. They print many gorgeous weeklies along with the dailies of Central Maine. We look forward to a long relationship with them, as we look forward to a long relationship with this community, whom we love so much and can now reflect back to you in living color!

Thank you, readers and advertisers, for your support these years. You have made it possible.
