Successful
fundraiser for NG First Congregational Church
The
event to help bring in money for the Save the Ceiling
fund brought out a collection of curious 'cash in
the attic' patrons to the great room in the Parish
Hall at New Gloucester's Congregational Church last
Saturday. Eager antiquers waited for Auctioneer and
antiques expert Jim Cyr to relate a bit about their
item and perhaps make their day with a verbal appraisal.
Everything from napkin rings to huge paintings of
ships at sea lined the room as the participants waited
their turn.
The 167 year old church ceiling is in desperate need
of repair and will cost about $25,000-30,000 to fix.
The work will commence in the spring. The work will
include restoring by plaster injection and be completed
by Tony Castro. Sunday services will be ongoing during
the restoration, but no events or weddings will be
scheduled during the reconstruction period.
To donate, send to First Congregational Church of
New Gloucester, "Save the Ceiling Fund,"
PO Box 114, New Gloucester, ME, 04260.
The Saturday event raised about $900.
