New Gloucester Town Manager Report
By Rosemary Kulow

Meeting with Town Attorney, Pat Scully

Now that a year has past since the Town contracted with Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer, and Nelson, I met with town attorney, Pat Scully, to discuss our level of satisfaction with their legal representation. I told Pat that I have no problems with our relationship or their work, and I appreciate the expertise of several of the attorneys there, which town staff has experienced already. The half-rate billing has now ceased, and the town is paying full rates. It's a pleasure to work with such a highly qualified legal firm.

Fall Dinner at Opportunity Farm

November 2nd, Barbara Seaver, Debra Parks, and I attended the fall dinner at the Opportunity Farm. It was a lovely time, as the food was excellent, and students/residents were recognized for their uncommon achievements. I truly appreciated the opportunity to get to know the folks at Opportunity Farm better and learn more about the activities and philosophies at the farm. Both residents and staff do wonderful work there!

Tour of Cumberland County Jail

The Cumberland County Town and City Managers, with assistance from GPCOG and Cumberland County officials, arranged a tour of the Cumberland County Jail for municipal managers in the county. I attended the tour on November 9th, and it truly opened my eyes to how the institution is managed and operated. I was also strongly affected by the human side of being associated with jail operations - on both sides of the law. It takes very special people to work in that environment as a correctional officer and obtain the training needed to be effective, and I applaud and thank them all. A couple of handouts about the jail are attached.
