New Gloucester Town Manager report
By Rosemary Kulow

MTCMA Meetings
Weather permitting, I will attend meetings of the Maine Town and City Managers' Association in Portland at the Eastland Park Hotel all day Friday, December 9th. The meetings include the following: (1) a breakfast meeting with MTCMA Range Riders (I chair the Range Riders' Committee); (2) the MTCMA Executive Committee, of which I am a member; and (3) municipal manager Ethics training (required for future recertification.)

Public Works

Public Works has moved from its summer schedule of 4 ten-hour days per week, and rather than return to a straight 8-hour per week schedule, they will work 4 nine-hour days and 1 four-hour day for a trial period. It is hoped that by working an extra hour four days per week, the crew will have the ability to keep roads clear and safe for school buses and commuters while at the same time avoiding some overtime. In addition, it would give the crew a chance to go home earlier on some Fridays when weather conditions allow. The shorter day on Friday will also help conserve heating and vehicle fuel consumption.

Transfer Station Roof
D.C.S. Construction Corp. has completed the Transfer Station roof project except for minor finishing touches on flashing. An electrician repaired the electrical system after it was exposed to water during heavy rain during construction. Thanks to the Public Works Department for helping with this project!

Town Hall Alarm System is installed and operational. Those authorized to enter the town hall after business hours must stop by the town office to be trained how to arm and disarm the alarm system.

Mandatory Annual Safety Training

The Safety Committee will provide annual "round-robin" safety training at the fire station to all town employees two days in January - 3:00 p.m. on the 19th and 7:30 a.m. on the 26th. The sessions will include training for safe lifting techniques, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous communication policy, lockout-tagout identification, fire extinguisher training, and video display terminal training. The training will be video-taped, so it can be shown to new employees when they are hired.

Town Hall/Fire Station Generator Switching System
This will be installed on a couple of Fridays in January when all computers can be shut off.
