"Believe In Me
Maine"
By Rep. Susan Austin
While serving on the Business Research and Economic
Development Committee I gain and gather "good
news" just for YOU! The Legislature is out of
session presently awaiting the start of the new session
on January 4th, 2006. However, there is still plenty
of information coming across my desk or gathered from
forums and conferences.
Bill Signing Day was cancelled for last Friday due
to the inclement weather. Wednesday, December 21st
then became Drop Dead Day for bills to be submitted
by 5 p.m. Mother Nature certainly complicated getting
necessary sponsorship signatures but was where there
is a will there is a way and a fax machine!
Friday, December 9th The Maine Banker's Association
hosted a Legislator's Breakfast in Windham for the
region's senators and representatives. Bankers representing
Key Bank, Maine Bank & Trust, Northeast Bank,
and Bank America were in attendance. Each banker shared
high lights of their contribution to the communities
they serve during this holiday season.
Some partner with other organizations for programs
such as Toys for Tots, etc. Legislators were made
aware of many other services that are available to
their constituents through various banks. Ms. Diane
Field of Maine Bank and Trust does a Jr. Achievement
Program at the Windham School System and Kelly McKeil
of Northeast Bank runs a Financial Literacy Course
for our youth as well as for adults.
In speaking with representatives from MDOT December
13th at a Fix 26 meeting in Poland I was told that
the specs for construction of the Gray By-Pass should
be going out anytime, January at the latest
then
there is a 3 week time frame for bids to be submitted
to the state from perspective construction companies.
We shall see?
I,
along with "all my family" wish you a very
blessed Christmas and holiday season. This is an opportunity
for us to "choose" to set aside the daily
and long term issues of concern/debate to enjoy all
that we love and hold dear. I will take some of my
own medicine; putting health care, By-Pass, bike paths,
library expansions, and island secessions in a holding
pattern during this special time of year. A pattern
I will return to after I show "undivided"
caring and attentive interest in those who make my
life worthwhile, worth the concerns, worth the debate
and certainly worth living.
As
always, Sues
