New Gloucester- Ruth Harriet (Davis) Hersey, 87, of
New Gloucester, died Wednesday February 16, 2005 at
Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris.
She was born in Tuftonboro, N.H. on February 7, 1918,
the daughter of Harry and Sarah (Gilman) Davis.
She married Robert S. Hersey November 19, 1933 in
Tuftonboro, N.H. He died October 22, 1978. She was
always a homemaker and very active in the New Gloucester
Bible Church. She is survived by her son John and
wife Shelia Hersey of North Norway, daughters Marylou
Shattuck and husband Allen of Auburn and Bonnie Hersey
of Mechanic Falls, one granddaughter Kimberly Hersey
of North Norway, one sister, Eleanor Knights of Exeter,
N.H. and several nieces and nephews and grandnieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, two sisters, Beatrice
Davis and Mildred Dore and two brothers, Albert Davis
and Arthur Davis.
There was a visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. last Sunday
at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray, and
a funeral service immediately followed. Burial will
be in Lower Gloucester Cemetery in the spring. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's
Association, 162 Lancaster Street, Portland, Maine

Elizabeth
Merrill Berry Caswell, 81
New Gloucester- Elizabeth Merrill Berry Caswell,
81, passed away February 15, 2005. She was born
in New Gloucester on September 30, 1923, daughter
of Henry True and Ina (Haskell) Merrill. Elizabeth
graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1942
and graduated from Dr. Leighton's Hospital in Portland
as an LPN working in the field of gynecology and
obstetrics until she was married in 1945 to Ronald
Walter Berry of New Gloucester who died in 1966.
Elizabeth enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting
and was a 60 year member of the Sabbathday Lake
Grange. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed
family gatherings. Elizabeth was predeceased by
two brothers, Blynn and Henry Merrill. She is survived
by her daughter, Althea Driscoll and her husband
Stephen, her two sons, Walter Berry and his wife
Rena and Stephen Berry and wife Bonnie. Seven grandchildren,
Leesa and Jennifer Driscoll, Mitchell Berry, Cindy
and Patricia Berry, Tim Lewis and Angie George,
one brother, True Merrill and wife Mary, and many
nieces and nephews.
There was a period of remembrance from 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday evening, February 18th at Wilson Funeral
Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. A graveside service
will be announced in the spring. Memorial donations
