Poker Rally success
Gray Snowolves Club: safe fun for all
By Elizabeth Prata

As the snowmobilers crossed the last street to St. Gregory's, poker faces cracked into smiles. The First Annual Poker Rally sponsored by the Gray Snowolves was a success, with not only big fun had by all, but with funds raised for future scholarship donations. The Snowolves donate $300 toward a senior who will major in an environmentally related field. Above, coming back to home base. The Monument: Prata photo

The snowmobilers run a course that extends from St. Gregory's Church in Dry Mills, where the players pick up their first of five poker cards. They sled up to the Big Apple next to the Gray Post Office, down to Cole Farms, over Weymouth Road, and back to St. Gregory's, picking up four more poker cards along the way. The best hand wins $50, second prize is $25, and third prize gets $10. Below, The Bombi is a super groomer that grooms the trails in only one pass. Its heaviness packs a nice trail but also is sensitive to turns and needs careful maneuvering not to get tangled up. It's worth it though, regular groomers sometimes take five or six passes to get the trails packed down. Bill Murphy photo

Treasurer Kim Shelley extends a hearty thank you to all of the bakers, to all of the members who groomed the trails, Bill & Mary Murphy for organizing the event, all members who "manned" the stations, and to the cooks in the snack shack. Ms. Shelley and the Club thank the locals who came out and did the poker run who are not members yet. "We all had a lot of fun and it took a lot of work to make it successful and I can't thank all of you enough," Ms. Shelley said.

Ms. Shelley continued, "Thank you to Alan Reed who gathered up family and friends and brought them. A special thank you goes to the Dahms family who donated back their winnings in memory of their friend, Michael Huff. Next year we hope that more of our townspeople will come on out and have some fun with us. That's what we're here for!"

Member Bill Murphy said that the focus of the club is to promote family fun and safety. Mr. Murphy offers the 'Bill Waas Safety Course' classes, call 657-2420 for more information on signing up for the next class. To join the Gray Snowolves, call Kim Shelley @ 428-3244. The Club is sponsoring the annual dance next week. It will be held on March 19th from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Gray American Legion Hall, Rt. 200, Gray. The charge is $10 per person and there will be a live band, Fourtune to enjoy dancing the night away. Come have some fun while helping us to raise money for the scholarship fund.
Below: The Snack Shack is a popular place after a good ride. The ex-camper was converted into a snackmobile with cast-offs from the transfer Station, a lot of dedication and only a few severe words! Bill Murphy photo
