Selectmen hear resounding silence at budget meeting


New Gloucester--A teenager's worst nightmare is to plan a party and then issue lots of invitations, but one comes. The New Gloucester Budget Advisory Committee (BAC), Selectmen and Manager may have been thinking back to those heartfelt teenage days as they sat before the microphones Monday night asking the bare sprinkling of audience members for comment on their proposed $3,152,902 municipal budget. It reminded one of the scene in the movie 'Ferris Beuller's Day Off', with the droning science teacher saying, "Anyone? Anyone?" more

Selectmen deny citizen warrant request

New Gloucester--In New Gloucester, with the Selectmen form of government, citizens have the right to ask Selectmen to place items on the list of warrant items to be considered at Town meeting. more

State Budget proposal draws ire
Local officials respond

At first, the news out of Augusta about the biennial state budget sounded like a forecast for smooth sailing ahead. According to a press report released Saturday March 19th (forwarded from Senator Mark Bryant's office,) the Appropriations Committee had OK'd a balanced budget that was headed to the full Legislature for enactment by April 1st as planned.

Gray--Aileen Bennett Tufts, 102, was born November 10, 1902 the daughter of Charles Payson and Hattie Woodbury Bennett in New Gloucester at what is now the Opportunity Farm. more
