In Memoriam

Gray--Aileen Bennett Tufts, 102, was born November 10, 1902 the daughter of Charles Payson and Hattie Woodbury Bennett in New Gloucester at what is now the Opportunity Farm. She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1920, then went on to the University of Maine at Orono, becoming a member of phi mu sorority in 1921 and graduated in 1924. On August 1, 1925 Aileen wed Eben Dutton Tufts of New Gloucester.

Aileen was a member of the First Congregational Church of New Gloucester and was active in civic affairs in both Gray and New Gloucester for over 60 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years Eben, her son; Payson A. Tufts Sr., and great-grandson Mark Wallace.

Survived by a daughter Barbara E. Pollard, Grandchildren; Denise Pollard, Wayne Pollard and his wife Gwen, Great-Grandchildren; Jessica Pollard, and Nicole Hamilton and her husband Walker all of Gray. A son; Gordon E. Tufts of Las Vegas, Grandchildren; Terry Lynn of In, Pernell Tufts of Las Vegas. Daughter-In-law; Pauline B. Tufts; Grandchildren; Sharon Henson and Charles Tufts of Bakersfield, CA, Elizabeth Wallace and Ross Tufts of Sierra Vista, AZ, Payson, A. Tufts Jr. of Oregon, 8 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.

A visitation period was held Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Please make memorial donations to The Opportunity Farm for Boys & Girls, P.O. Box 65, New Gloucester, Maine 04260.
