SAD 15 Budget overview: Memorial School

The Monument presented the SAD budget overview two weeks ago. Last week, we begin by looking at changes at each individual school, starting with Russell School. This week is Memorial School.

These items below were proposed to the public by the Board, the Administration, and the Budget Advisory Committee at the initial presentation on March 5. The budget is subject to discussion, and change during the formulation process.

Projected Student Demographics for 05-06
Grade K 72 Students 15 avg. class size
Grade 1 72 students 18
Grade 2 67 students 22
Supervised Staff Total in building: 33
Classroom Teachers 9.5
Arts, Music, PE, Guidance, Social Worker, Nurse, Title 1 (shared with Russell) 7
Special Ed Teachers (Speech, RR, FLS) 3 Full Time
Classroom Ed Techs & Librarian 4
Support Staff (Kitchen, Secretary, Custodian) 4

Library/Media:

Library is up 18.73% this year. The increase will allow us to purchase 129 new books. The attempt is to replace books that were printed in the 1950's with some updated materials and subscribe to five monthly magazines. The budget would allow a purchase of new tables and chairs to accommodate children at the K-2 level.

Principal's Office

There is an increase of 6.02% over last year. This represents fixed costs plus the reallocated office copier lease/repairs to the Principal's department. Office supplies also now include cartridges for the printer and fax machines.
Instruction:

This reflects and increase of 4.35% over last year. This represents fixed costs for teacher salaries. This is also where we have lease costs for copier machines and laminator supplies. Our foster grandparents are also added to this department unlike past years. There are no new programs or any new staff.

Additional Considerations
All Day Kindergarten (Not in budget)
1.5 teachers needed at Memorial, 1 at Russell

Rationales:
Improved reading, writing and math skills
Improved social skills and independent academic skills
Improves gap seen between sub groups for NCLB
Improves chances that ALL children are on grade level by end of grade 2, as required.
Impact: $185, 000.
