Citizens plead with Council
Pleas fall on deaf ears

Gray-The natives spoke for three hours Tuesday night at the regular Council meeting, and if their comments are any indication, they are restless. At their last Council meeting on April 5, the Council had approved extending by one year the Manager's contract. It was due for renewal in 2006

SAD 15 High School proposed budget information

The projected enrollment at the high school is estimated at 771 students. Our budget goal for the 05-06 school year will be to continue our plan of increasing teaching and learning opportunities while supporting instructional resources for teachers. more

State Budget woes: woe to you and me that is

With the Budget passed, Maine will borrow $447 million this year. We aren't borrowing this money to build schools or an East/West Highway. I told my elementary teacher, Mrs. Lucille Stampon who is a valued constituent, "we're taking out a loan so you and I can have supper!" In other words, just to pay for ordinary expenses over the next two years. more

The Healing power of art

Artistic expression has long been acknowledged to have a part in helping to heal emotional and even physical problems. The practice has included not only visual art but writing, dance and drama. Participation in the making of visual art provides benefits not just for an artist, but also for the rest of the population. It is currently being used to good effect in clinical settings such as local hospitals. more

Outrunning Leukemia
Area woman helps raise funds

Former New Gloucester resident Laurel Munsell is well on her way to becoming a marathoner. Her goal to run 26.2 miles on June 18 is something more of a mission. She is taking on the Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska as a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. more
