"BELIEVE IN ME. … MAINE"
By Rep. Susan Austin

Representing portions of Gray, No.Yarmouth & Pownal, serving on the Business Research and Economic Development Committee I gain and gather "good news" just for YOU!

The Special- Special Session is over but there is still plenty of information coming across my desk. The Maine State Treasurer's Office has 10 major Duties: 1. Cash management 2. Investments 3. Revenue Forecasting 4. Cash Management Improvement Act 5. Trusts & Custodial Services 6. Bonds 7. Revenue Sharing 8. Unclaimed property (recall those letters I sent to you about that property?) 9. NextGen College Investing Program and 10. Tobacco Settlement

I have received word from the University of Maine's Dept. of Public Affairs and Marketing that UMaine recognized 2,324 students for all A's & B's in the Spring '05 Semester. Out of that group making the Dean's List, 279 are from out of state, 2,000 are from Maine and 45 are from foreign countries. Within our District of Gray, No. Yarmouth & Pownal let me introduce our Dean's List students!

Hailing from Gray: Samantha Foster, Aaron Skilling and Emily Robinson. Residents from No. Yarmouth: Sarah Furey, Heather Perrier, Brian Burke and Jennifer Johnston. Those whose homes are in Pownal: Jessica Swan, Brooke Moyen and Nicole Swindler. Congratulations to our students for this fine work ethic and notable Dean Listing!

The University of Maine, Orono, Navetek in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Applied Thermal Scieinces of Sanford, Maine are working together to fabricate, test and analyze hybrid hull prototypes. Hybrid composite/metal hull-forms are being used to make ships stronger than ever before. The superior strength-to-weight ratio, less corrosion and much more versatility and greater efficiency are some of the advantages of this prototype! This work is being funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research.
