Three biodiesel pumps open to the public in Maine
Raymond Gas station one of the three

Frontier Energy, Maine's premier BioDiesel wholesale supplier announces that BioDiesel is now available at three public fueling stations across the State of Maine. Speedy Stop Gas, located in the parking lot of the Raymond Shopping Center on Rte. 302 in Raymond, Maritime Farms on Rte. 17 in Union, and Frontier Village Market on Rte. 3 in South China are offering the alternative fuel that works in any diesel engine.

Commercial fleets in Maine have used BioDiesel for several years, including, most notably, L.L. Bean. However, these public pumps follow a trend in the BioDiesel industry that finds individual consumers creating the demand and traditional fuel dealers answering with supply. For every one unit of energy needed to produce BioDiesel, 3.24 units of energy are gained. This is the highest energy ratio of any fuel available today.

Perhaps more significant, for every unit of BioDiesel used, one unit of American fuel displaces a unit of foreign oil. According to John Ware, Sr., Pres. of Maritime Energy, the performance benefits of BioDiesel include superior lubricity, even at low-blend levels, which reduces equipment wear and premature breakdown. In more than 30 million miles of in-field demonstrations, BioDiesel showed similar fuel consumption, horsepower, torque and haulage rates as conventional diesel fuel.

Additional benefits include reduced diesel exhaust odor, and if spilled, BioDiesel biodegrades much faster than traditional diesel. Just like petroleum diesel, BioDiesel operates in compression-ignition engines, including cars, trucks, heavy equipment and boats.

Pure BioDiesel can be used as a fuel in diesel engines and heating systems, and is compatible with existing storage and distribution equipment. Biodiesel can be blended with petroleum fuel at any level. Low-level blends (20% and less) require no engine modifications and can provide the same payload capacity and range as regular diesel fuel. The BioDiesel for all three locations is brought into the state by Frontier Energy, the first company in the U.S. to offer BioDiesel blends to retail customers for both heating fuel and on-road usage.
