One applies for Council vacancy
By Elizabeth Prata

Gray--So far the Council has received one application for the Council vacancy, opened on June 21 when Matthew Sturgis resigned unexpectedly. Gray resident Julie DeRoche has applied.

Chair Gary Foster said, "I spoke with [Vice-Chair] Andy Upham regarding one applicant for the vacancy, and he is of the same opinion as me that we would like to have more than one to choose from. I would certainly like to see the interest demonstrated last fall, after Councilor Richard Barter resigned. Perhaps others are unwilling to subject themselves to the retorts sometimes directed at the Council, particularly in view of recent events."

Last Fall, there were seven applicants asking to be considered for the appointment to fill the position Mr. Barter left open. Two of those appointee candidates later ran for elected term and were successfully elected. They are Denise Duda and Andy Upham. The term for this seat is less than one year, until June 2006.

Interested persons should submit a letter of interest addressed the Town Council. Letters of interest should be mailed to 6 Shaker Road, Gray; emailed to ebullen@graymaine.org; or dropped off in person at the Town Office."
