Everything from Tai Chi to Hip Hop
By Jeanne Adams

Casco--Have you ever wanted to try polarity or tai chi? Want to find your animal totem or use art for wellness? What about hypnotherapy or lifebreath? These are a few of the many services offered at a special fundraiser in Casco Village on October 1. For a $40 ticket attendees may choose, smorgasbord style, up to five forty-five minute activities/services offered at the day-long fundraiser for the Cancer Community Center in Portland.

Organizer Lisa Magiera is a black-belt in karate and owner BKD Fitness Center in Casco Village. In her spare time, Lisa is heading up the Goddess in the Pines event. She thought Casco Village would be a great place for the event, with its many indoor spaces close together near the green where Casco Days is held. She "wanted to make it more of a village event, we just happen to be organizing it. It's grass roots and feels like home."

Events will be held in the Library, at BKD, Casco Village Alliance Church, the Grange Hall, Momentum Craft Shed, Caso Days Field and the Town Gym.

The Cancer Center provides non-medical support, including: wellness, yoga, tai chi, healthy cooking, creative expression, support groups and a one-on-one buddy support program. They also host expert speakers on topics of interest to their patrons. Development Director Carrie Kinney said, "The event started last year. It fits our mission perfectly - enriching the quality of lives." The fundraiser donated over $3,000 dollars last year.

Goddess in the Pines "is a great opportunity to try things you may not be familiar with," said Ms. Kinney. An opening ceremony starts things off and the closing ceremony will feature a healing circle to wrap up the day. For a full schedule and more information go to: www.bkdfitness.com, Lisa Magiera at 627-7171 or lisa@bkdfitness.com.
