hear ME now! earns K-school approval

hear ME now! a non-profit oral deaf learning center recently earned a Certificate of School Approval, naming hear ME now! As a Special Purpose Elementary (Grade K) School. Located at Pineland in New Gloucester, hear ME now! helps children who are deaf and hard of hearing optimize their speech, listening, language and academic skills; and their self confidence, so they can succeed in mainstream settings in society.

Advances in technology such as digital hearing aids and cochlear implants have helped many children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing to enter the mainstream at home and as school. But cochlear implants and hearing aids are only part of the story, at hear ME now!, children use these technologies to learn to listen and speak.

Kathryn Girardin is Executive Director and hosted the Open House event on October 18 at the facility at Pineland. Here, Heather Peters, hear ME now! Teacher of the Deaf, with her own daughter, Sierra, who was visiting mom during the Open House.

FMI about the programs and services, which include parent/infant training, parent training, toddler program, presshcool and kindergarten, audition, speech and language and auditory visual therapy, call the school at 688-4544.
