Victorian
Tea Party
At Gray Public Library
By Denise Duda
Gray--Playing to a standing room only crowd Saturday
morning at the Gray Public Library was young magician
Jared Mongeau, of Cumberland. With remarkable stage
presence, quick wits and a bit of sleight of hand,
Mongeau had the whole audience, young and old, entirely
captivated. At twelve years old, he has already been
performing for six years and has had several professional
gigs, starting this year with the grand opening of
the Pineland YWCA.
The performance came after the ladies anfd gents had
enjoyed tea, sandwiches and sweets at the Gray Public
Library's third annual Victorian Tea Party.
The Monument was able to ask him a few questions following
his performance (with his Mom's permission) beginning
with why he got started in magic. "I'm not exactly
sure why," Jared said, "I like entertaining
people and also to amaze them. It's fun." He
said his favorite part was, "Hearing the kids
laugh- I also do clowning and also just performing
the magic is fun."
Asked what his friends think of his business, Mongeau
said that he thinks they like it but he doesn't talk
about magic or performing all the time. He has a local
friend that shares his interest and one friend in
Massachusetts that also performs magic. His goal is
to work in Boston some day. This summer, Jared has
received a scholarship to Circus Smirkus a residential
camp for aspiring performers. He needs to raise some
additional funds for the camp and is taking bookings
for shows right now.
