So Quoted

The As Maine Goes website (www.asmainegoes.com) hasa write-in listserv where members can read postings and write responses. One hot topic late last week was of Brent Bowen, the Lewiston High School senior who was almost expelled for distributing a Maine College Republican newspaper, "The Pachyderm Press," in the High School Cafeteria. Mr. Bowen stressed that the Administration supported his rights to free speech,he sadi it was the teachers who had the most problem with his activities. The listserv was abuzz, and listserv member "UsuallyConcerned" posted:

...When did schools become a political platform for either side?...

and Rep. Michael Vaughan (R-Durham) District 105, part of Durham, part of Lisbon, and New Gloucester answered,

"When the democrat teachers union adopted Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto plank of taking control of the public schools."
