Two Woman show

Barbara Bagshaw and Mary Brooking on display together again, July 5th -22nd. These two regionally renown, award winning artists, will be showing their current, contemporary works. Bandstand Concert series

North Yarmouth's 2006 Summer at the Bandstand series presents Carolyn Currie in performance on Thursday, July 20. The evening starts with a potluck dessert at 6:30 p.m. The performance starts at 7 p.m.

Currie will perform on the Band Stand at North Yarmouth's Village Green, Route 115 in North Yarmouth, adjacent to Wescustogo Hall.

The concert is free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to bring a dessert to share at 6:30, and a lawn chair or blanket. Parking is available at the Green. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be performed in Wescustogo Hall. For more information, please call 829-3705.

Martin Perry: Have Fortepiano, Will Travel…
To Perform With Daponte Quartet

Maine's much-loved pianist, Marty Perry, will add a unique feature to his collaboration with the DaPonte String Quartet: his Walter Fortepiano made by R.J. Regier of Freeport.

Martin Perry is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where he studied with the renowned pedagogue Adele Marcus. Mr. Perry is happy to be returning for a third summer season with the DaPonte String Quartet, having enjoyed a long association with DSQ cellist Myles Jordan, performing.

There will be three performances of this program:

July 24: Second Congregational Church of Newcastle, 7:30 p.m.
July 26: Corthell Hall, USM, Gorham, 7:30 p.m.
July 27: Union Church, South Bristol, 7:30 p.m.

On the program will be works by Mozart and Stravinsky:

Piano Quartet in G Minor, KV 478 by Mozart
Concertino for String Quartet (1919) by Stravinsky
3 Pieces for String Quartet (1920) by Stravinsky
Piano Concerto in E Flat Major, KV 449 by Mozart

During The Mozart Piano Concerto, Mr. Perry will play his own cadenzas.

Don & Wendy Francisco

Don Francisco is known best for his powerful story songs like "He's Alive" and songs of encouragement, like "I'll Never Let Go of Your Hand". For nearly 30 years, 20 albums, and two GMA Dove Awards, Don's ability to paint a picture and deliver a message through song has been the foundation of his worldwide ministry.
Wendy is best known for her stellar work in the folk duo 'Wendy & Mary'-- has recorded six albums, with such favorites as "The Wind Came Singing" and "Someone for You". An accomplished guitarist and vocalist as well as a world-class songwriter, she brings a musical and lyrical beauty to the concerts that adds to Don's style and message in a perfect balance.

The Francisco's powerful singing will grace the halls of the new Gloucester Bible Church on Tuesday, July 25 at 7 p.m. It's a Don't miss event.

Poland Spring Art Show

Poland Spring Preservation Society announces its 3rd Annual Art Show to be held Saturday, July 22, 2006 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Preservation Park on the grounds of the Poland Spring Resort off Route 26 in Poland. Besides viewing an outstanding venue provided by local artists, visitors will have the opportunity to tour four buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, enjoy the beautiful grounds of the Poland Spring Resort, and even hike a nature trail on the property. Lunch will be available for purchase, provided by the Poland Community Church.

Country Music Competitions

The Down East Country Music Assoc. will be holding their 2006 Country Music competitions at Charlie's Entertainment Center, Main Street, on Sunday July 16th begining at 10am. On Stage at Deertrees

Deertrees Theatre goes into the summer season full swing with an eclectic mix of performances starting next week that include the Maine Hysterical Society, one of the hottest bluegrass bands around, the Kruger Brothers, the official album release concert for the Dave Rowe Trio’s new CD, and a fully staged performance of Mozart’s comic opera, “L’Oca del Cairo.”

Testosterone: Male Photographers Baring Themselves

The Radiant Light Gallery will open its special summer exhibition, Self-Exposure, on Friday, July 14, from 5 - 9 p.m. with a reception for the photographers and Reed Massengill, Pulitzer Prize nominee and editor of the recently released book of the same title. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. The exhibition will run through August.

At 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, July 15, come hear the photographers speak about their self-portraits. Reed Massengill will moderate the forum to be held at The Holiday Inn by the Bay, 88 Spring Street, Portland. Community Little Theatre season set

Left, Janet Gibson, Season Ticket Chairperson, and Doreen Traynor, Executive Director, are busily processing the season ticket sales for Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre's 67th Season. The deadline for season ticket renewals is July 1. Following that date, new subscriptions will be accepted through September 1. Individual tickets will be available to the public on September 2. Subscriptions may be reserved by calling the box office at 783-0958 or accessing the theater website at www.laCLT.com.

Subscriptions are $60 which include the five plays for the season. Gibson and Traynor point out this is a 20% savings over regular seat prices. Other perks include a guarantee for "same seat" reservations, season ticket exchange up to 24 hours prior to curtain, annual membership is included, the CLT newsletter, "Backstage Whispers" is mailed to patrons as well as audition notices and other theater related information, and, most importantly, it supports the local community theater.
