GNG BA May Day Social

Monday, May 1, mark your calendars, bring your colleagues! The Gray-New Gloucester Business Association is holding their first after-hours social of the year. Join us from 4-7 p.m. at Spring Meadows for cocktails, hors d'ouevres, and giveaways from area businesses. Free for GNG BA members, $5 for non-members. FMI call the GNG BA at 657 2033.

Chicken Pie Sale

Sabbathday Lake Grange will have its monthly Chicken Pie Sale on Saturday, April 15. Price is $7 each or 2 for $12. Please call your order in to Pam Dyer at 657-4612 by Wednesday, April 12th. Pickup is between 10 a.m. and noon on the 15th at the Grange Hall on the old Rt. 26 in New Gloucester. If you haven't tried one yet, now is the time. You're in for a treat!

Evening Program Teaches Spring Astronomy

From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, Maine Audubon will offer an evening program on spring astronomy. Astronomer Lori Agan will guide participants through the myriad stars, constellations, planets and deep-space objects visible to the naked eye, through binoculars and with the help of a large telescope. Designed for both adults and families with children ages ten and over, the program will begin indoors with an introduction and then head outside.

The program is $8/adult, $3/child for Maine Audubon members; $10/adult, $4/child for nonmembers. Advance registration is necessary. To register or more information on this or other Maine Audubon programs, call (207) 781-2330 or visit www.maineaudubon.org.

Public Baked Bean Supper

Amvet Hall Rt. 100, New Gloucester, Saturday, April 15 from 5-6 p.m. Beans, Chop Suey, Coleslaw, Hot Dogs, Biscuits, Pie. Adults $6 Children $2.

Classes for homeschoolers

Ages 13-15, will be offered two days a week in Portland for the 2006-07 academic year. Classes are hands-on and interactive. Algebra 1, Chemistry, World History, Language Arts. For more information, call Kathy 878-5196.

Scrapping event

Scrapbookers will be flocking to the first annual scrapping event on Saturday, April 22, 9am-4:30 p.m. at the First Universalist Church of Auburn. The all-day event features a delicious free lunch, free goodie bags of crafting materials, and vendors onhand with all the latest accessories. UU will also offer $1,000 in raffles and door prizes from local merchants. Located downtown at 169 Pleasant Street (across from Dairy Joy), the church is handicap accessible. $30 tickets by April 14. Shaker Museum offers free catalog

The 2006 Shaker Museum workshop catalog is now available free of charge. Contact the Museum at 926-4597. the catalog includes details of 16 workshops and 11 crafts demonstrations, hers, floor cloths, chair caning, baskets, woodworking, handmade paper, knitting, quilting, wood turning, blacksmithing, pinning, and weaving. News of special events is also included in the catalog.

Transportation of Bygone days event

On Thursday, April 20, 7 p.m. North Yarmouth Historical Society and Cumberland Historical Society will present "Rolling Friction & Sliding Friction: A Look at Transportation of Bygone Days," presented by Gordon Corbett. Skyline Farm's collections include wonderful period sleighs, carts, wagons, carriages and coaches. What discoveries and inventions made them possible? What state of the art technology was employed in their construction and use? We'll take a look at one of mankind's most important inventions: the wheel and axle. This presentation will take us on a little trip through time. Join us for the journey and see some of the historic wheels of Skyline Farm. A fun and informative program with a great educator.
