Clear Your Calendars for the Annual New Gloucester Strawberry Festival

New Gloucester Historical Society will once again host the annual Strawberry Festival. All are cordially invited. The date has yet to be set due to the sensitive nature of the berries to this rather crazy spring weather. The place will be the New Gloucester Congregational Church Vestry on Gloucester Hill Rd. In addition to a variety of delicious ways to eat the berries, the Festival will also feature the Berry, Berry Good Band, a baked goods table and a history table. Watch these pages for details!

Sabbathday Lake Grange Yard Sale


On Saturday June 10 from 8am - 2pm, Sabbathday Lake Grange will be having a yard sale at the Grange hall on Sabbathday Road in New Gloucester (Across from the lake). There will also be chicken pies (while supply lasts), baked goods, raffles, RADA cutlery, and much more. There will be something for everyone. Church Yard Sale

The Tuttle Road United Methodist Church, 52 Tuttle Road (off Middle Road), Cumberland will hold its annual spring yard sale -- "The Big One" - on Saturday June 17, 2006 9am - 1pm. Rain or Shine. United Society of Shakers

June Workshops at Sabbathday at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, New Gloucester. Lavender Workshop at Shaker Village - participants will learn how to cultivate lavender then work on several projects that will show lavender's use in crafts, cosmetics and culinary ways. The workshop takes place on June 17th Fee: $30 pre-registration is required.

Chair Caning Workshop at Shaker Village
The 7-step method of chair caning will be taught at a workshop to be held on June 24. Supplies provided. Fee: $30 pre-registration is required.

Crafts demonstrations are free and open to the public. Demo hours are 10-4:30pm
Nature Walks begin June 24. Guided walks take participants across the Shaker fields, into the Shaker woods, to Loon's Point and the footbridge at Aurelia's Cascade. Offered 10-1:30 pm Fee: $5 adults; $2 children; under 6 - free. Reservations required.

The Cumberland County Cooperative Extension is pleased to announce its Master Gardener Volunteer training program for educators. This program is designed for people who work in schools (K-12) and are residents of Cumberland County. The training course will take place this summer during a three-week period in July and August. Participants are selected through an application process. Applications are available by calling the Cumberland County Extension office at 1-800-287-1471 or by viewing the web site www.umaine.edu/umcecumberland/ccmg. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 16, 2006.
