Letters to the Editor

To the Editor,

As a student of Gray-New Gloucester High School I believe the Town Council should continue negotiations with Hancock Lumber over the Libby Hill property. They should push harder to purchase the land, even if it will cost the Town of Gray a little more money than they would like. (Paying the appraised price doesn't seem unreasonable). Many of the Libby Hill trails are used by bikers, runners, skiers, hikers and school sports. They are a great resource for all of the citizens of Gray.

I know that there are already a couple of houses being built on Libby Hill and I'm afraid that if the land is not bought by the town it may be developed further. In the future as space becomes more valuable, I believe people will look back with regret on a missed opportunity. For these reasons and more I encourage our Town Councilors to pursue the purchase of the Libby Hill land.

Sincerely,
Emily Maguire, Gray
