Ted Blais thrown hat in ring
Running for Sheriff

The Cumberland County Republican Committee is pleased to announce that Edward "Ted" Blais of Standish is the Republican candidate for the office of Sheriff in Cumberland County. Edward is running as a write-in candidate for the Republican nomination. As a write-in candidate, he will need to secure 300 or more votes in the June 13th primary to qualify for the November ballot.

Edward is very well qualified for the Office of Sheriff. He is a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's class # 53 and was the president of the class. Edward served as a Police Officer for the Town of Gorham for 20 years, is currently the Chief of Police at the University of Maine Farmington and holds a Masters degree in Criminal Justice.

Edward said that his top priorities as the Sheriff would be to focus his efforts on the staffing shortage within the Cumberland County jail and to assign full time drug investigators to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA).

Edward said the current Sheriffs' administration has continuously operated the jail with nearly 25 full time vacancies. He said that because of the staffing shortage some officers routinely work 80 to 100 hours a week. Edward said that this practice of running the jail is dangerous and unacceptable.

Edward also said that as the Sheriff of Cumberland County he would immediately assign investigators to the MDEA. He said he recognizes that many robbery and burglary crimes in the county are being committed by drug dealers and drug users in an attempt to further their criminal operations. Edward Blais is tough on crime and will work hard to keep illegal drugs out of our schools and our neighborhoods.

Please join us on June 13, 2006 in support of Edward Blais by writing him in as the candidate for the Office of Sheriff in Cumberland County. For the vote to be counted, voters must write both the name of the candidate and the town of Standish. The voter must then cast their vote by checking the correct box or filling in the circle for the candidate.
